Violinist Christina Nam To Perform Mozart’s 3rd Violin Concerto March 10

The Seven Hills Sinfonietta (SHS) is pleased to announce that violinist Christina Nam will join the ensemble for a performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, K. 216.

As Music Director William White notes: “At this concert we’re focusing on two composers, both of whom are audience favorites: Mozart and Tchaikovsky.  There’s a further connection – Mozart was Tchaikovsky’s favorite composer.  We’ll open the concert with Mozart’s beloved overture to his fairytale opera, The Magic Flute, and we’ll also play Tchaikovsky’s Second Symphony, which moves from the dramatic to the playful.  Continuing the Sinfonietta’s longstanding tradition of introducing new talent, we will have the pleasure of performing Mozart’s 3rd violin concerto with 10-year-old violinist Christina Nam, a perfect fit, since the composer himself was also a child prodigy.”

William C. White named Music Director of Seven Hills Sinfonietta

The Seven Hills Sinfonietta (SHS) is pleased to announce that William C. White will become its Music Director beginning with the 2012-2013 season. Mr. White is Assistant Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony, Cincinnati Pops and May Festival. He also conducts the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra.  Mr. White succeeds Michael Wheatley, who served as SHS Music Director from 2006-2012.

“Will has guest conducted the Seven Hills Sinfonietta on several occasions, and formed an instant rapport with the players. We all admire him very much,” commented SHS Board President Maralyn Itzkowitz. “Will’s professional responsibilities with the CSO and CSYO are demanding, but we held out hope that he would be willing to take on a community orchestra, too. We’re absolutely delighted that he accepted.”

Mr. White added, “When I guest conducted the Seven Hills Sinfonietta this past autumn, I had just moved to Cincinnati, not knowing a soul. I soon came to find out what a warm, welcoming, and musically committed a group of musicians this is. Since then, I’ve discovered just how active the members are in the greater Cincinnati arts community: they are performers, teachers, students, supporters, audience members, and on and on. The Sinfonietta is both a community orchestra and an orchestral community. As a conductor, I could hardly ask for anything more!”

The Seven Hills Sinfonietta is a volunteer community orchestra whose members include avid amateurs and some professional musicians. The group performs three concerts in its season, which lasts from September to June. Weekly rehearsals and all performances take place at Congregation B’Nai Tzedek, 6280 Kugler Mill Road in the Kenwood area. Concerts are free and open to the public.
